On June 7th it finally happened again, the CXI conference took place in Bielefeld. Our absolute favorite design conference.
The concept: client and agency present a project together and talk about the task, the idea, difficulties, solutions and learnings. That’s the reason why it is so special for us. In general, many conferences report unilaterally from the point of view of the customer or the agency and the difficult project phases are usually completely skipped. Everything is always easy and happens almost by itself. The presentation is mostly started with a far too long presentation of their portfolio or dry company facts. All information that can usually be found on the company's website. From time to time there is such information in short form at the CXI, but the focus is always on the introduction and explanation of a joint problem solution. In a creative process with two parties, it never goes according to plan and there are often restrictive guidelines or decisions that require completely new solutions and make processes more complicated. The result is always a co-creation and the result of many understandable, emotional and historical decisions.
This is exactly the exciting part of our work, in which you learn a lot and at the CXI these phases are highlighted. This refreshing honesty is worth much more than any portfolio presentation.
Our favorites this year were Kurppa Hosk from Stockholm with a deep insight into internal design processes and unconventional solutions for smaller customers, Interbrand from Cologne with the client FC Bayern München and the difficult procedure with an emotionally charged rebranding and of course our Düsseldorf neighborhood colleagues from G31 and Sipgate who came during the project to the realization that sometimes you have to fundamentally change the briefing in the middle of the project and find new ways of working together to achieve a great end result.
At the end of the day we drove home with very instructive tips and full of new ideas. Yey!
